Bruce Lee arrived in Seattle in 1959 and soon befriended his first student, Jesse Glover. Through Mr. Glover’s friends, Bruce began accumulating a small group of dedicated students whom he taught informally in parks, garages or at their residency.

    Non-Classical Gung Fu

    Bruce Lee's first student and training partner, Jesse Glover has taken what Lee taught him to a higher level which is known as, "Non-Classical Gung Fu". Jesse has released three books and multiple training tapes on his art.

    Bruce Lee's second student, Ed Hart is famous for his infusion of grappling into Gung Fu. He has released two tapes on his gung fu. Mr. Hart passed away in 1998.

    Skip Ellsworth was Bruce Lee's third student and close friend. Mr. Ellsworth passed away in 2008.

    James DeMile was a friend and student of Bruce Lee but received the bulk of his training from his friend Jesse Glover. Mr. DeMile has formed his own interpretation of what Lee taught called, Wing Chun Do.

    Taky Kimura was Bruce Lee's first official instructor and close friend. He continues to be the official grave keeper for both Bruce and Brandon Lee. His son, Andy Kimura is heir to his school.

    Doug Palmer was Lee's close friend who went on a special trip to Honk Kong with Lee. He is now an international lawyer.

    Joe Cowles was Bruce Lee's student and friend who later entwined Lee's Jun Fan Gung Fu with Chin-Na to produce his interpretaton of Lee's art known as, "Wu Wei Gung Fu".

    Core Jeet Kune Do

    Pat Strong was a friend and student of Bruce Lee who not only trained with Lee but also Lee's friend and training partner, Hawkins Chueng. He continues to perpetuate Lee's art under the banner, "Core Jeet Kune Do". This book contains two interviews with Pat Strong.

He later opened up a school with Taky Kimura as his official assistant instructor. Students during the Seattle era include: Jesse Glover, Ed Hart, Skip Ellsworth, DeWelle “Skip” Ellsworth, James DeMile, Taky Kimura, Leroy Garcia, Doug Palmer, Joe Cowles, Pat Hooks, Mike Lee (half-brother of Jesse Glover), and Pat Strong.

The
Seattle school continues to thrive to this day under the instruction of Taky’s son, Andy Kimura.
